Power of Volunteering

One of the biggest reasons why I choose to attend Gardner Webb is service. When I heard they are big on it, I knew it was the school that I wanted to go to. I am a member of a service club called Campus Civitan and yesterday, we volunteered at a transitional homeless shelter. We were allowed to play with the kids and we ended up doing puzzles, drawing pictures and coloring with them. We even served them lunch and got to chat with the people staying there. Below is one of the drawings I did while playing with the kids.

I have been involved in other opportunities outside of Miracle Hill. My club also has volunteered at Octoberfest, Relay for Life, Special Olympics, and other things.I even got the wonderful opportunity to go on a mission trip to Charleston where we helped paint a room, do a lot of yard work, and attend a church service at the church where the Charleston shooting took place. I even volunteer through the theatre department. I have been the house and box office manager and volunteered at a high school theatre competition called NCTC this semester.

Volunteering is one of my favorite things to do. It even is a passion of mine and at the same time a calling. The area I am the most interested when it comes to volunteering is the homeless and poverty population. One act of kindness can go a long way and volunteering is a wonderful way to do it.
