Building a Strong Foundation

“Therefore everyone who hears the words of mine and puts them into practiceis like a wise man who builds his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great house”- Matthew 7: 24-29

This parable is at the very end of the Sermon on the Mount. The Sermon on the Mount was talking about the wise and the fools. He used this parable to explain what makes someone foolish and what makes someone one wise. They heard the same words of Jesus, but what they do with those words determines if they are foolish or wise. Also both face storms in their life, but how they deal with them determines the same thing.

The things that makes someone wise is where their foundation lies. The wise is smart and builds their house on their rock and it never falls over because the foundation is located on the rock. To build a foundation on the rock takes a lot of time and labor. They are the ones that fully listen to what Jesus tells them. They face hardships, but they are smart by building their foundation on rock because they are able to listen to what Jesus tells them. Everyday people hear so much information and the can only process some of it, but eventually we will forgot. But the wise will try to remember as much as they can.

However the foolish tries to build their foundation on the sand. Building their foundation on the sand makes them seem lazy because they do spend a lot of time trying to build their house. They decide to take the easy route and do not fully listen to what Jesus tells them. They will face hardships like the wise, but they will make bad decisions during those difficult times. Just like the wise, they hear so much information everyday, but they will not take the effort to fully pay attention.

When someone is obedient to Christ, they are wise and those who are not obedient are like the fool. It is hard to have a strong foundation, but it is the best route because it is more risky and takes more hard rock and allows people to feel more connected to Christ and as result will be a stronger spiritual person.

In life, we need to work as leaders to each other. However, we need to be careful to who and what we listen to. If we listen to the right people, our life will be filled with so much more meaning, but we listen to the wrong people, our life will be filled with less meaning and will makes us do some very bad decisions.
